The transformer has a primary coil winding and a secondary coil winding and an iron core (1) formed from stacked transformer core plates (2), with termination elements at the sides of the stacked transformer core plates for supplying the coil windings. The size of the transformer core plates is less than the minimum dimensions of the transformer core plates required for the maximal power output, to allow fitting into a standard wall socket, the height of the transformer core plate stack and the coil windings increased to obtain the maximal power output.
