<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device equipped with a constitution which can suppress the position detecting precision for an article to be detected from decreasing, and at the same time, can suppress the generation of wrong detections. <P>SOLUTION: A linear encoder which detects the position of a carriage is equipped with a light emitting section having a light emitting surface which emits light, a light receiving section having a light receiving surface which receives the light from the light emitting section, and a linear scale 31 which is arranged between the light emitting section and the light receiving section. In addition, the linear encoder is equipped with a cleaning member 83 which is fixed to the linear scale 31, and at the same time, performs the cleaning of the light emitting surface or the light receiving surface by coming into contact with the light emitting surface of the light emitting section or the light receiving surface of the light receiving section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
