PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and high-precision rotation angle detection device applicable to an electric power steering system. SOLUTION: A resolver 30 is mounted on a steering shaft 102 of the electric power steering system. The resolver 30 is equipped with a ring-like stator 32 fixed to a stator housing 31 and a ring-like rotor 33 fixed to a rotary shaft member 34. The ring-like rotor 33 is made of a magnetic substance so that its permeabilityμchanges with its position. The stator housing 31 and the rotary member 34 touch by their threaded portions 36. Thereby, the rotary member 34 moves up and down with rotation. As a result, the permeabilityμof a part of the ring-like rotor 33 facing the ring-like stator 32 changes with the rotation.
