PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a large output voltage amplitude at a low transmission rate and a low output voltage amplitude at a high transmission rate with a single driver. SOLUTION: A low-voltage differential signal (LVDS) driver has at least two programmable fingers which operate to drive signals and at least two pre-drivers. Each of the pre-drivers is associated with one programmable finger and enables or disables the programmable finger. The enabled programmable finger drives signals and contributes to capacity load of the driver. The disabled programmable finger neither drives signals nor contributes to capacity load of the driver.
