APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RECEIVE DIVERSITY FOR DETECTING RANDOM ACCESS PREAMBLES IN COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

A receiver for detecting random access preambles in a mobile communication system is provided to detect a receiving path of each receiving antenna and the random access preambles received to multiple random access channels through multi-antennas to process signals received from the multi-antennas. A conjugate complex number generator stores a preamble sequence for plural receiving signals, and outputs a conjugate complex number corresponding to a prestored preamble sequence according to a channel band at which a receiving signal composed of at least one input sample is transmitted. Pre-processing units(100,100') process each of the received receiving signals to output plural preambles respectively. Preamble calculators(200,200') output power information about the receiving signals on the basis of the plural preambles and the conjugate complex number. The power information includes power values of each of input samples composing the receiving signals. A non-coherent combiner(300) combines and outputs the outputted power information into one power information. A peak detector(400) provides preamble information about the plural receiving signals for controlling a receiver on the basis of the maximum power value in the power values of the outputted power information.
