A computer and a battery recharging method thereof are provided to maximize recharging capacity of a battery with discharging by cutting off power supply to the battery when external main power is received, and enable a user to use the battery conveniently by making the user determine to cut off the power supply to the battery. A system unit(10) includes at least one electronic part. An adaptor(30) supplies main power to the system unit. A battery unit(20) supplies sub power to the system unit by receiving recharging power from the adaptor. A controller(40) enables the battery unit to cut off supplying the recharging power and discharge the sub power if a voltage level of the battery unit receiving the recharging power is higher than a reference level corresponding to a discharge state when the main power is supplied from the adaptor. A switch unit(70) switches the power supply to the battery from the adaptor. The controller receives voltage level information of the battery unit by turning on/off the switch unit periodically. The controller enables the adaptor to cut off the power supply when input for cutting off the power supply is received from a user input unit(60). A battery charging unit(50) charges the battery unit by the power from the adaptor.
