PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent self-generation of heat from a thin film transistor formed on a substrate of low heat dissipation in which the semiconductor layer is composed of polysilicon. SOLUTION: The display unit comprises a display panel having a plurality of sub-pixels, and a circuit for driving the plurality of sub-pixels wherein the display panel has a substrate, the drive circuit has a thin film transistor formed on the substrate, and the thin film transistor has a semiconductor layer composed of polysilicon. The thin film transistor has a source electrode, a semiconductor layer and a drain electrode formed on the substrate, a gate insulating film formed on the source electrode, the semiconductor layer and the drain electrode, a gate electrode formed on the semiconductor layer above the gate insulating film, an insulating film formed on the gate electrode, and a metal layer formed on the insulating film to cover at least a part of the gate electrode.
