A mobile body that is safe because it has no projection on the surface of its body, that has a large operation stroke to allow a user to perform a delicate operation, and that has a small-sized operation section. The mobile body has a string-like body (8) that can be pulled out of and taken up by the vehicle body (3), a length measuring device (9) for measuring the pulled-out length of the string-like body (8), and an angle measuring device (10) for measuring the angle of the string-like body (8) relative to the body (3). A drive section (5) is controlled based on the results of the measurements by the length measuring device (9) and the angle measuring device (10).
