A motor control device controls a motor and a motor system including an inverter outputting power to the motor. The motor control device includes an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit sets a q-axis current value depending on a torque command value, and performs system loss reduction control to control a d-axis current value so that a system loss (Ps), made by adding up a copper loss (Pc), an iron loss (Pi), and an inverter loss (Pinv) which change by accompanying a change of a current phase (β) of a current vector on q-axis and d-axis planes, becomes lower than a system loss (Ps) caused when a motor loss (Pm), made by adding up the copper loss (Pc) and the iron loss (Pi), is minimized. |
