PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that cuts out the entire image of a read document even when the image of the document is inclined, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: An image reading device comprises: a document size detection part 52 that detects the size of a document; a document reading part that reads a reading area including the document; a document inclination angle detection part 54 that detects the inclination angle of the document; an inclination correction part 55 that corrects the inclination of an image of the document up to a prescribed limit inclination angle or corrects the inclination of the image of the document when the inclination angle of the document is the limit inclination angle or less; a document extraction part 53 that cuts out a cut-out area of the document size from the image of the reading area to extract the image of the document; and a cut-out area changing part 56 that increases the cut-out area when the inclination angle of the document exceeds the limit inclination angle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
