The invention specifies a collision detection apparatus for a medical device. The apparatus comprises a tactile sensor (1) with a planar embodiment which is embodied to detect a contact of the medical device with an object, and a proximity sensor (2) with a planar embodiment which is embodied to detect an approach of the object, wherein the tactile sensor (1) and the proximity sensor (2) are at least in part embodied in a fabric-like manner. A medical device comprising such a collision detection apparatus and a method for operating a medical device with such a collision detection apparatus are likewise specified. The invention offers the advantage that both approaches of an object and instances of contact with an object are identified reliably and robustly.
