Process for dyeing keratinous fibres, characterized in that at least one composition (A) containing, in a medium suitable for dyeing, at least one indole derivative and at least one oxidation dye chosen from rapid oxidation dyes and couplers in combination, either (a) with iodide ions, or (b) with hydrogen peroxide, is applied on these fibres at a pH of between 2 and 7, and preferably between 2 and 5, the application of the composition (A) being preceded or followed by the application of a composition (B) which contains, in a medium suitable for dyeing: either (a) hydrogen peroxide at a pH of between 2 and 12 and preferably between 2 and 7 when (A) contains iodide ions; or (b) iodide ions at a pH of between 3 and 11 when the composition (A) contains hydrogen peroxide.
