HV transformer with screened windings - uses multi-layer screening with conductive layer and outer insulating layers with similar expansion coefficient to transformer insulation mass

The transformer has at least two adjacent individual windings (w1, w2) carried by the transformer core (KE), separated from one another by a screening (S) having a multi-layer structure with at least one electrically conductive layer (ES) sandwiched between outer insulating layers (AS). These have a thermal expansion coefficient of the same order as the insulation mass (VM) in which the windings are embedded. Pref. the core is held at a floating potential and is relatively insulated from earth, so that electrical discharges across the insulation are prevented at pressures below 10<-2> mbar, in vacuum operation. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for a.c. valve amplifier. Prevents mechanical rupture damage due to different thermal expansion rates.
