The data cable plug (1) has a plug element (5) with a latching tongue (7) for interaction with a plug socket or plug strip, whereby the plug defines a longitudinal direction and the longitudinal direction of the plug and the latching tongue define a plane. A molding is molded onto the plug element when joined to the data cable (3) to protect the latching tongue. The molding is formed in one piece. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a prepared data cable with at least one inventive plug.
