[PROBLEMS] To slightly adjust the size of a disposable diaper according to the body type of a baby by increasing the engagement force of fastening tapes with an external back sheet and the adhesive force of the external back sheet to a leakage preventive sheet in the disposable diaper for directly engaging the fastening tapes with the surface of the external back sheet formed of a nonwoven fabric. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The external back sheet (2) of the disposable diaper (1) is formed of the nonwoven fabric manufactured by an air-through method in which fibers are thermally fused to each other by feeding a heated air in a drum carrying process during the manufacture of the nonwoven fabric. The external back sheet is disposed so that its drum contact surface side is positioned on the diaper inner surface side and its drum non-contact surface side is positioned on the diaper outer surface side or a napping treatment is applied to the outer surface of the external back sheet (2) in a prescribed area (12) set at least as its engagement area with the fastening tapes (10) to increase the engagement force of the fastening tapes (10) therewith. Furthermore, the external back sheet is formed to be longitudinally foldable at any position in an at least front body portion side end flap (EF_F).
