Disclosed is an air conditioner or cooling device in a device housing, which is to be put in a place or object that is to be cooled, especially to cool computer racks and switchgear cabinets. One side of the housing of the air conditioner or cooling device overlaps or replaces one side of the switchgear cabinet that is to be cooled. The device housing is embodied such that the contour of two device housings that are rotated towards each other according to the male-female principle and are put next to, into, or on top of each other forms a rectangular column, at least one side of each device housing forming a full side of the obtained rectangular column.
