A video display device and a control method thereof are provided to receive and update channel map information including broadcasting station names and channel map versions to provide broadcasting information with the latest channel map, thereby searching, selecting and switching into a desired broadcasting channel by using the channel map including the broadcasting station names. A digital tuner(12) receives and demodulates broadcasting signals into an MPEG2-TS(Moving Picture Experts Group 2-Transport Stream). A storage unit(14) stores the demodulated MPEG2-TS. A demultiplexer(13) divides the demodulated MPEG2-TS into a video signal, an audio signal and additional information. A video processing unit(15), a data processing unit(16), and an audio processing unit(17) processes the divided video signal, audio signal, and addition information respectively. A display unit(18) displays signals processed by the video processing unit and the data processing unit. An audio output unit(19) outputs a signal processed by the audio processing unit. An image display device generates a channel map to search a channel by using a broadcasting station name.
