REALISTIC HEIGHT REPRESENTATION OF STREETS IN DIGITAL MAPS

A realistic height representation of streets in a digital map is provided to supply users with detailed and reliable map information and facilitate guidance of a route by using a navigation system. Data is read from a topographical model(10). The data includes height coordinates obtained from the topographical model, especially, height coordinates used to generate and initialize a street vector(11). A cost function with respect to the street vector constituting a desired digital representation of a physical street is calculated(12). The street vector is determined for a street to be included in a digital map with a minimized cost function(13). The determined street vector is stored and inserted in the digital map(14).
