PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an electric power steering device with higher reliability not only performing determination by magnitude of steering torque of steering of a steering wheel and motor angular velocity but also performing determination by comparing it with an operated continuation time even when disconnection failure of an ignition signal circuit and engine failure are generated. SOLUTION: The control device for the electric power steering device operates a current instruction value based on the steering torque and feedback-controls a motor for giving steering assistance by the current instruction value. The control device is provided with a torque signal monitoring part for determining abnormality of the steering torque and outputting a first assist stopping signal; a motor angular velocity detection part for detecting the angular velocity of the motor; a motor angular velocity monitoring part for determining abnormality of the angular velocity and outputting a second assist stopping signal; and an assist stopping part for stopping the motor drive to perform the assist stopping when the first and second assist stopping signals are inputted.
