Durable hydrophobic and/or oleophobic glass substrate comprises a monomolecular layer of hydrophobic and/or oleophobic silane on a surface rugosity having root-mean-square value of 1-40 nm. An independent claim is included for a preparation of the glass substrate comprising forming a sublayer with inorganic matrix by sol-gel process and then forming a silane coating maintaining geometry surface of the sublayer, preferably by sol-gel process.
