PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clinometer which has a simple structure and improved responsiveness. SOLUTION: The clinometer comprises: a triaxial acceleration sensor 1; a composite acceleration calculating section 2 for calculating, on the basis of an x-axial output value A<SB>x</SB>, a y-axial output value A<SB>y</SB>, and a z-axial output value A<SB>z</SB>from the triaxial acceleration sensor, a composite acceleration A determined by A=√(A<SB>x</SB><SP>2</SP>+A<SB>y</SB><SP>2</SP>+A<SB>z</SB><SP>2</SP>); a measurability determining section 3 for determining the deviation of the composite acceleration A from 1[G] and outputting a measurement instruction when the value is within a predetermined range; and an inclination angle calculating section 4 for outputting as a measured value either an x-axial inclination angleθ<SB>x</SB>determined byθ<SB>x</SB>=tan<SP>-1</SP>(A<SB>x</SB>/A<SB>z</SB>) or a y-axial inclination angleθ<SB>y</SB>determined byθ<SB>y</SB>=tan<SP>-1</SP>(A<SB>y</SB>/A<SB>z</SB>), or both on the basis of the x-axial output value A<SB>x</SB>, the y-axial output value A<SB>y</SB>, and the z-axial output value A<SB>z</SB>from the triaxial acceleration sensor when the measurement instruction is received from the measurability determining section.
