摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device having such structure that the number of parts can be reduced, in an optical pickup device provided with a plurality of optical systems guiding light projected from a light source to an information recording surface of an optical recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: An optical pickup device 1 includes a first optical system 2 and a second optical system 3. The optical pickup device 1 has a liquid crystal element 40 arranged over optical paths of the first optical system 2 and the second optical system 3, a polarization direction when light is made incident on the liquid crystal element 40 is formed so that straight line polarization from the first light source 21 and straight line polarization from the second light source 31 are different by 45 degrees. A first region on the optical path of the first optical system 2 of the liquid crystal element 40 is used instead of a 1/4 wavelength plate, a second region on the light path of the second optical system 3 of the liquid crystal element 40 is used as an aberration correction region for correcting wave front aberration. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
