Multi-shot scheduling system

A Multi-Shot Scheduling System chooses from multiple candidate playlists of positions to select a broadcast playlist. Candidate playlists are generated based upon scoring and selecting content items for the positions through the use of index values. Various embodiments of the Multi-Shot Scheduling System can select broadcast playlists for multiple groups of content and can provide different methods of controlling scheduling performance by restricting the range of candidate playlists from which the best playlist can be selected.

1. A method of generating a playlist, the method comprising:
using a processing circuitry, identifying a first position of a playlist to be scheduled, wherein the first position is associated with a content type, and is assigned a range of allowable position index values; using the processing circuitry, identifying first content items eligible for assignment to the first position based, at least in part, on whether the content type associated with the first position matches a content type of the first content items; using the processing circuitry, scoring eligible first content items based on suitability for assignment to the first position; using the processing circuitry, assigning a content item index value to scored eligible first content items, the content item index value based at least in part on scores of the scored eligible first content items relative to each other; and using the processing circuitry, assigning one of the scored eligible first content items to the first position based, at least in part, on whether the content item index value of the one of the scored eligible first content items falls within the range of allowable position index values assigned to the first position.
