A cover system (2) for a vehicle (4) includes a flexible cover (6), preferably of nylon, having a leading edge (12), a trailing edge (16) and side edges (14), of a suitable dimension to fit over the entire vehicle from the rear bumper to the front bumper and sides thereof. The flexible cover (6) includes an elastic leader segment (10) attached at a first end to the cover and spaced from the trailing edge (16) thereof. A second end of the leader segment is attached to a rotatable spool (9) housed in a containment tube (8). The spool is rotated for reeling in the cover by a motor (32), or by a spring-biased shaft arrangement (86) or by a manually turnable crank (21, 23), or by combinations thereof. The containment tube (8) is pivotally mounted by straps (26) to the interior of the trunk for storage therein and is adapted to be pivotally swung outwardly from the trunk to an operable position at the rear of the trunk lid. |
