Procedure and device for treating water using reverse osmosis - in which water is cooled in reverse osmosis unit or permeate storage vessel by e.g. peltier element and waste heat is removed by concentrate

In the procedure for water treatment, raw water is introduced into a reverse-osmosis module (18) in which it is sepd. into a concentrate and a permeate. The concentrate is discarded (24) while the permeate enters a storage vessel (30) from which it may be drawn off by consumers (46). Under this method, the water passing through the reverse-osmosis module is cooled (50) and the waste heat is removed by the concentrate stream (22). The raw water may be pre-cooled in a pre-filtration arrangement (12,13), and this heat is also remvoed by the concentrate stream. Heat from the cooling of the water in the storage vessel may be disposed of in the same way. Excess permeate from the cooling procedure may be discarded (48). The flow through the reverse osmosis unit is switched on and off (14) w.r.t. the liq. level (32) or temperature in the storage vessel. A cooling unit pref. in the form of a Peltier element, over whose warm side the concentrate stream is passed, may be used. The water passing through the reverse-osmosis unit is cooled by at least 5 deg. C and/or a temp. below 15 deg. C. The water in the storage vessel is cooled to a temp. below 12 deg. C and pref. to 4 to 8 deg. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for purifying water, and especially for preparing water from private wells for human consumption. A constantly sterile water supply is provided irrespective of the frequency and/or quantity of water drawn off.
