A crockery-washing machine with flushing vessel inside an outer casing has bitumen mats covering part at least of the vessel so as to damp the flushing noises. Cladding material, typically plastic foam, fills the space between housing and vessel. Before fixing to the vessel, the mats are shaped to fit round it, and are then secured to it by detachable fasteners or glued joints. After cold-shaping, the mats can be melted at different spots to secure them to the vessel. Alternatively, they can be heated over a large area, and brushed after fitting in position.
