The novel process for separating off oils and fats and sink and float materials from waste waters (effluents) which are primarily contaminated with organic constituents is characterised in that the waste water constituents (fats and sink materials) separated off are each gathered on a small cross-sectional area, compressed (concentrated) and removed from the separator housing at short intervals. As a result the aim is achieved of protecting organic waste water constituents against decay in order to lead to an expedient reuse or exploitation. In addition, the thermal energy arising with the waste water is utilised.
