PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is eliminated in deterioration in display quality and high in reliability when the surface is irradiated with intense light. SOLUTION: Liquid crystal 3 is filled between an active matrix substrate 1 and an opposite substrate 2. On the active matrix substrate 1, signal lines 4, scanning lines 5, thin film transistors 6 and pixel electrodes 7 which are arranged in matrix are provided, and the pixel electrodes 7 are applied with voltages from the signal lines 4 through the thin film transistors 6. On the opposite substrate 2, a light shield layer 8 is formed at a part corresponding to the thin film transistors 6. The light shield layer 8 is also formed at a part which does not correspond to the thin film transistors 6, e.g. a part except the pixel electrodes 7 including the signal lines 4 and scanning lines 5. On the surfaces of the light shield layers 8 and 8 of the opposite substrate 2, a plane counter electrode 9 is formed. On the surface of the counter electrode 9, a reflection preventive layer 10 is formed and on the surface of the reflection preventive layer 10, an orientation film 11 is formed, the orientation film 11 is formed even on the side of the liquid crystal 3 of the active matrix substrate 1. |
