A cup holder which can receive and secure a cup, preferably a paper cup which is positioned therein. The inner surface of the side wall of the cup holder has at least one step, preferably a series of steps, which are sized and shaped and positione d to enable the cup holder to receive and secure more than one size of cup. The cup holder in its most preferred application is used to hold paper cups, most prefer ably paper cups manufactured to contain hot drinks, such as coffee, tea and the like.
