The invention concerns a method for non-destructive control of the condition of a surface likely to be cracked, using a method based on the observation of the wave emitted by a dye product applied on the surface and in the cracks, under the effect of an incident excitation beam of wavelength suited to the dye product. The invention is characterised in that it consists in using the rotation of the rectilinear polarised wave emitted by the dye product according to the thickness of the dye relative to an incident rectilinear polarised light wave, for eliminating from observation the spots caused by the residual dye product present on the surface. On the drawings, figure (1) is a laser, figure (2) is an observation camera and figure (3) a polarised wave analyser. The invention is applicable to dye penetration inspection and magnetic particle inspection.
