<p>A combination flashlight (10) has both a unidirectional spot light (52) disposed at one, and an area light (56) diposed at the other end. The area light is disposed beyond a wall (24) of a body (14) to radiate in a substantially full circle. The body of the flashlight has primary and secondary body members (74, 76) which rotate with respect to each other about a longitudinal axis. A switch element (186) is coupled between the primary and secondary body members to selectively activate the spot light and area light as the body members rotate with respect to one another. A battery compartment is removably disposed in a battery cavity and is configured to receive one or more batteries. One end of the battery holder forms electrical contact with the spot light. The other end forms part of the switch element and has a primary surface with electrical contacts. An insert member is coupled to the secondary body member with a secondary surface and electrical contacts adjacent the primary surface. As the primary and secondary surfaces rotate with respect to each other, the electrical contacts contact in different combinations to activate the spot light and area light.</p> |
