PURPOSE: A method is provided to achieve an improved output of torque and fuel efficiency while decreasing noxious gas emission. CONSTITUTION: A cam shaft sprocket of an automobile engine is provided with a device having a structure similar to that of an automatic timer of an injection pump, so that the cam shaft has a phase difference. During the operation at a low speed mode, the suction timing is controlled to be delayed while the suction is performed before the top dead center during the operation at a high speed mode, thereby improving suction efficiency. The suction timing is delayed during the low speed mode so as to obtain a high power output, while the suction timing is advanced during the high speed mode so as to obtain a high power output. The same is applied to the exhaust timing.
