PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device and storage method capable of securely managing data in a storage area to which access from an external device is inhibitted. SOLUTION: A music player 1 stores music data acquired from a USB interface 16 in a first storage area 18a of a HD 18 by a HDD 17 when the music data is downloaded from an external PC. A control part 10 determines whether connection to the PC through a USB cable connected to the USB interface 16 is disconnected or not, and when it is detected that the connection to the PC is disconnected, it is determined whether the music data downloaded in the first storage area 18a of the HD 18 at this point is in a MP3 format or not. The control part 10 copies the music data into a second storage area 18b by the HDD 17 when the music data downloaded in the first storage area 18a is in the MP3 format.
