PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coke briquettes excellent in both initial strength and hot strength.

SOLUTION: The coke briquettes are produced by mixing powdery coke with ≥5 wt.% bentonite and 1-3 wt.% starch, kneading the mixture, briquetting the kneaded mixture to briquettes and maturing and/or forcedly drying the briquettes.
