<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide recombinant nucleic acids that encode all or a portion of epothilone polyketide synthase (PKS) that are used to express recombinant PKS genes in host cells for the production of epothilones, epothilone derivatives, and polyketides that are useful as cancer chemotherapeutics, fungicides, and immunosuppressants. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed are isolated host cells or recombinant host cells, wherein the cells contain a modified PKS and form epothilone derivatives selected from the group consisting of 16-desmethylepothilone, 14-methylepothilone, 11-hydroxyepothilone, 10-methylepothilone, 8,9-anhydroepothilone, 9-hydroxyepothilone, 9-ketoepothilone, 8-desmethylepothilone and 6-desmethylepothilone. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
