PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver which can make a user recognize that actuation operation has been transmitted to an apparatus by displaying a still image or an animation on a screen before normal display is started after actuation operation, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: A control means 12 generating a video signal on the basis of an application corresponding to the receiving function makes an output means output a preset video signal when power is turned on, actuates the application under a state where the preset video signal is outputted, and makes the output means output that video signal in place of the preset video signal under a state where the video signal is generated from a broadcast signal based on actuation of the application.
