PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end face light emission type light emitting device with improved light extraction efficiency. SOLUTION: The end face light emission type light emitting device extracts emitted light from at least one end face of a laminated structure having a pair of electrodes 4 and at least one light emitting layer sandwiched between the electrodes on one side of a plane of an optically transparent substrate. An electrode terminal part is formed on the plane, and at least one of an area which is not coated by the electrodes on the plane of the substrate, or the electrode terminal part is coated by light reflection layers 6, 7.
