PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve efficiency of repetitive operations including reading commodity codes and measuring the weight of commodities. SOLUTION: A self-checkout unit is provided with user interfaces such as a commodity code read section (bar-code scanner 203), a display section (LCD210), and the like arranged in a position in which customers can operate it and information can be provided to the customers; a settlement terminal 201 which enables the customers to perform self-checkout; and a balance device 301 for measuring the weight of commodities placed in a placement table 303a for placing the commodities whose commodity codes have been read. Based on a configuration in which a weight is checked according to the result of measuring in the balance device 301, a sound generating section generates a confirmation sound, both at first timing in which a commodity code is read, and at second timing in which the commodity is placed in the placement table 303a of the balance device 301 after the commodity code has been read.
