PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing member 10 having weight efficiency of energy absorption. SOLUTION: The energy absorbing member 10 is provided with a cylindrical main body 11 composed of at least two high rigidity portions 12 having relatively high rigidity, low rigidity portions 13, 14 which are parts except for the high rigidity portions and having relatively low rigidity. The high rigidity portions 12 are oppositely disposed in a slanting direction tilting to a cylinder axial direction, and the low rigidity portion 14 is disposed at least between the high rigidity portions 12 opposite in the slanting direction. When a compressing load in the cylinder axial direction is inputted to the main body 11, accompanied with the high rigidity portions 12 opposite in the slanting direction moves to approach to each other in the cylinder axial direction, the low rigidity portion 14 positioned between the high rigidity portions 12 is shearing-deformed.
