PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand an operation area capable of controlling the suction air volume by an intake valve, in a control device of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An operation characteristic of the intake valve is variably controlled based on request torque and an EGR quantity so that new gas of quantity required for realizing the request torque is sucked in a cylinder. The EGR quantity is increased more than the other operation area in a low load area for reducing a requiring quantity of the new gas. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
