PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent lowering of a catalyst temperature by a fuel cut during deceleration even when the catalyst has not reached a temperature for activation in a variable valve timing control device for internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This control device is equipped with a deceleration time fuel cut performing means for performing a fuel cut according to a preset condition during deceleration, a braking force determination means for determining on and off of a brake signal, and a valve overlap amount increasing means for increasing the valve overlap amount of an intake valve 19 and an exhaust valve 21 when the brake signal is determined to be on by the braking force determination means in a state of a fuel cut being performed during deceleration by the deceleration time fuel cut performing means.
