The central heating system for an apartment building has a hot water tank (3) in each apartment, supplied with hot water from a central boiler (1) with a meter (2) for recording the total burner duration for the latter. The boiler (1) also feeds a relatively small central storage tank (4) coupled to the domestic hot water supply in each apartment via a control vessel (9) incorporating an electric heating element (10a) operated when a large amount of water is required, the heating resistance (10a) is fed with a power output simulating the charging time of the central hot water tank (4). The current feed for the meter (2) coupled to the boiler (1) has a relay causing metering to be split between two counters when water is fed to two apartments.
