<p>PURPOSE:To reduce fatigue of a driver and to enable safety driving through release of speed control when a distance to another vehicle is less than a predetermined value by photographing ahead of a vehicle with a photographing means, by calculating the distance to a vehicle ahead and by accelerating a motor when the distance is long, while decelerating when the distance is short. CONSTITUTION:In driving a vehicle, an image in the progress direction of a vehicle taken by a video camera 15 is processed by CPU 1 and 2, and an obstacle (vehicle ahead, obstacle) on its own lane, a distance to the obstacle (distance between two vehicles) and the relative speed against the obstacle are detected and operated, and the image is simplified and displayed on a CRT 1. Also, a driving speed (targeted value) is set by a microprocessor CPU of a constant speed driving device 13 according to the correlation of the distance between two vehicles and the relative speed of the vehicle against the vehicle ahead, and an engine and an automatic transmission control device 3 are controlled so that an actual driving speed corresponds to the targeted value. Here, when the distance between two vehicles is long, the engine is accelerated, while it is decelerated when short, and if the distance between two vehicles is less than a predetermined value, speed control is released.</p> |
