A spunbond-meltblown-fiber composite laminate (10) and a process for making same. A spunbonded mat (12) is ultrasonically bonded to a meltblown web (16). The side (18) of the meltblown web (16) opposite the spunbond mat (12) is extrusion coated with a continuous layer (26) of polymeric material which adheres to the fibers of the meltblown web (16) and forms a fluid impervious backing layer.
