PURPOSE: To eliminate a step edge image produced from an interpolated image by generating a signal used for interpolation through the use of a mean value of input signal components in vertical and diagonal line (45 deg., 135 deg.) directions via three memory sections. CONSTITUTION: A signal Vi of the interlace scanning system is given to a 1-line memory section 32, and 1-sample memory sections 33, 34, from which a sum L of 135 deg. diagonal line signals is formed by summing delayed signals and a sum M of vertical direction component signals is formed by summing the signals delayed by the memory sections 33, 32, 34. A sum N signal of 45 deg. diagonal line components is formed by summing the signals delayed by memory sections 28, 29, 32. In the case that levels of a signal of an AND 1 and an output control signal of an EX-OR 1 are (1, 1), a MUX 51 provides an output of the L, in the case that levels of the signal of the AND 1 and the output control signal of the EX-OR 1 are (0, 0) or (0, 1), the MUX 51 provides an output of the M, and in the case that levels of the signal of the AND 1 and the output control signal of the EX-OR 1 are (1, 0), the MUX 51 provides an output of the N. The output signal from the MUX 1 is halved by a halving circuit 52 and outputted as an auxiliary signal Vout , An edge pattern control signal and a vertical direction control signal are generated from a sum of the signals L, M, N. |
