Provided is a method for charging a secondary battery, which prevents overcharge of the battery upon the initial charge to improve the structural durability and cycle life characteristics, and avoids a need for an additional posistor device to reduce the manufacturing cost. The method for charging a secondary battery comprises the steps of: detecting the terminal voltage of a bare cell to allow a protection circuit section(200) to recognize whether the initial charge is made or not; and when the initial charge is made, causing the protection circuit section to apply off-signals to the gate of a charging FET(140) installed in series on the path of wires connecting one terminal of the bare cell to one terminal of a charger to interrupt electric current, while applying duty time-controlled pulse signals to the gate of a precharge FET(133) connected in parallel with the charging FET on the path of wires to control the charging ratio. |
