A rubber composition comprising: a rubber ingredient comprising a diene rubber which has in the molecule a C12-16 alkylthio group having at least three tertiary carbon atoms at least one of which has a sulfur atom directly bonded thereto and which comprises (1) 30 to 85 wt.% conjugated diene monomer units, (2) 15 to 50 wt.% aromatic vinyl monomer units, and (3) 0.05 to 20 wt.% units derived from a vinyl monomer having a polar group; and a reinforcement comprising silica.
