The method involves the use of a system oscillator (1) by evaluating at least one control signal (PS,FS,JS,IS,AO) present in the transmitter and/or receiver and controlling the system oscillator depending on the at least one control signal to change its frequency. A quartz oscillator is used as the system oscillator and a capacitor coupled to it is varied to very the frequency of the system oscillator. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a transmitter and/or receiver with a system oscillator for generating a system clock (b) and a communications system with first and second transmitter and/or receiver devices.
