APPARATUS AND METHOD OF POWER CONTROLLING FOR OPTICAL DISK DEVICE

A device and a method for controlling power of an ODD(Optical Disk Drive) are provided to increase use efficiency of a computer system by lengthening a battery use time with reduction of consumption power, as the power supplied to the ODD is completely cut off in case that the ODD is not used over a predetermined time. An ODD driver(121) controls an operation of the ODD(111). A filter driver(122) monitors a state of the ODD. A management program(124) outputs a control signal for controlling the power supplied to the ODD according to an ODD state received from the filter driver. A controller(126) controls the power supplied to the ODD by the control signal of the management program. The ODD includes a switch(112) for turning on/off the power supplied from the computer system. The filter driver determines the ODD state by hooking a message transceived between the ODD driver and an OS(Operating System)(123) of the computer system. The controller performs power control by controlling the switch included in the ODD.
