PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shredder constituted so as to make a paper powder or dust hard to enter the periphery of a switch for altering the operation of a shredding mechanism or a detection switch and capable of preventing the trouble of the switch caused by the paper powder or dust. SOLUTION: The shredder for shredding the shredding target inserted from an opening by the shredding mechanism is equipped with the switch for altering the operation state of the shredding mechanism is equipped with the switch for altering the operation state of the shredding mechanism and a wall part for preventing the penetration of foreign matter into the periphery of the switch. The switch is constituted so that at least its lower part is surrounded by the wall part outwardly extending from the housing of the shredder and the space surrounded by the wall part forms the recessed part provided to the housing of the shredder.
